F08 Start Out There

I have a few more important principles to add to the main building blocks of spiritual movement.

a) Start outside!
It wasn’t until I was released from other ministries, made time each week for my club, talked with people, daily prayed for them by name, that things gradually started to happen! As I shared it with my co-workers and observers, they asked questions and some started trying things with their unbelievers! Today, some even surpass me substantially with their activities and skills!
Are you a pastor, an elder of a congregation? Are you a youth or a ministry or group leader? If you care about unbelieving people and want to encourage others around you to share the Good News, I’m excited! You need to start out there…!

I usually talk about the big movement concept, depicted by the four fields, only when I see connection between diligent Christians and unbelievers (1st field). Without effective sharing of the Good News (2nd field) and without producing new spiritual children (3rd field), all of this can lead to mere organizing without real life.
Where new people already exist (3rd field), a bigger view of the movement is naturally desirable! Otherwise, the vision of the whole community (4th field), including new people, becomes merely „going“ – to a group, the church or the youth. Where a larger calling is lacking, activities revolve around „maintenance“.

Without numerical growth, we tend to curve inside, on ourselves.
That’s why I say, „start outside!“

b) It’s not sequential!
It’s not that when we have reached a level of activity in the first field, we can go into the second and third, etc. By reading God’s Word with unbelievers, we enter the second field of sowing, and at the same time we enter the fourth field forming foundations of a fellowship. As soon as a new person invites Jesus into his life, we move with him from the second field to the third. By accepting what he has heard, he becomes a disciple. We serve him in his growth and at the same time direct him to his own first field – helping him with his relational map and in contact with his people. Once new George has started his own Discovery group (4th field), he is actually touching the middle circle with the arrows, because in a way he is beginning to „lead“ others, which is the beginning of multiplication!
So it’s not sequential! The picture of the four fields, the heart of God and the middle circle with arrows helps us not to miss any of the important parts. It allows us to examine how we are doing in each field, and sets a mirror for our followers in the next generation…

c) We serve in several fields
Those who started this type of ministry are involved in several fields at the same time. With some we build trust (1st field). At the same time we invite others to Jesus (2nd field). And those who have already believed, we help to grow and serve others (3rd field). In this way, we are actually walking on the inside of the arrow circle as we lead others and help them to serve.

One believing friend told me: „I am an evangelist, now you take care of those who have believed with me.“ But this has never worked for us! His people had no relationship with me. It was important that the one who had brought them to the Lord was committed to them; at least for some time. If following the Lord has become our lifestyle, then quite naturally we are serving in several fields at the same time.
And one more extremely important principle!

d) Keep everything simple
In a movement, every step must be so simple that new disciples independently implement it with their own new people! Keeping it simple tends to be very challenging for us experiencers. We like to study everything and to complicate things. But in doing so, we sabotage easy transferability.

There is much need to learn and experiment. Let’s experiment outside the visible arena. We need to impart the standard stream of ministry to new disciples in a standard way, meaning in a simple way, so that everything is clear and easy to grasp even for complete novices.

In the next few lessons, you will be given a brief overview of the main TOOLS for each field.

Lord Jesus, I want to see Your massive movement that will bring salvation to hundreds of thousands of people in this country and bring glory to Your name…
